Microsoft’s departure from the Russian market will have a positive impact on domestic software producers in the future, Vasily Shpak, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, estimated. His words are quoted by TASS.

“From the point of view of developers and manufacturers of domestic software, this step [Microsoft’s withdrawal from the Russian market] is certainly positive,” Shpak said, adding that in the medium and long term this will have a very positive effect on their capabilities and on those market niches that they can take.

The representative of the ministry expressed confidence that the issue of a significant increase in the competitiveness of solutions is only a matter of time. “With increased demand and access to the consumer, with their feedback, our developers will be able to make a leap to improve the quality of their products,” he explained.

Shpak stressed that Microsoft’s departure will not affect the increase in pirated versions of the operating system. “In that sense, whether Microsoft is in the market or not, Microsoft is not going to have much of an impact on the market,” he added.

On June 19, it became known that Microsoft banned downloading Windows 10 and 11, samples of these operating systems, as well as the Media Creation Tool program from the official website in Russia. In June 2022, the company made a decision to drastically reduce business in Russia. So, Microsoft fired all employees of the Russian division of Xbox, in total, 400 employees will be laid off.
